Fakenham Museum of Gas and Local History The Fakenham Museum of Gas and Local History is the only surviving town gasworks in England and Wales, complete with all equipment used for the manufacture of gas from coal: retorts, condenser, purifiers, meter and gasholder. The museum is housed in the town’s former gasworks, which ceased production of gas from the heating of coal in 1965 following the discovery of natural gas in the North Sea. |

Fakenham Local History Society
Fakenham Local History Society was founded in January 1952, the first talk being on the history of Fakenham. There were initially 33 members, who paid an annual subscription of five shillings. We meet in the Salvation Army Citadel, Oak Street, Fakenham at 7.30 pm on the second Monday of every month from September to June..... Do come along and get to know us, our town and its fascinating history! |
Cawston Heritage Centre
The Heritage Centre is in association with the Cawston Historical Society and consists of memorabilia, photos, newspaper clippings, documents, family history, maps, books, CD's DVD's, video tapes and old property documents etc. All materials can be viewed at the Village Hall |
First Focus - working with and for our community
"Helping people in Fakenham and the surrounding areas who are in need by providing information, a social centre, access to training, clubs and support groups". First Focus offers a friendly way to access information on issues around health, disability, social matters and education/training. As a social centre, volunteers welcome visitors to call in for a coffee and a friendly chat any time the centre is open. |
Rescue Wooden Boats Rescue Wooden Boats are based at Stiffkey on the North Norfolk coast and are passionate about conserving maritime heritage. They restore examples of working wooden boats, tell their stories about those of the last generation of seafaring communities to use them through film and photos, show the crafts and skills used and actively involve people, especially young people, in learning about all this. |
North Norfolk Bottles
A fascinating website which will appeal to collectors, local historians and genealogists. The site includes a comprehensive pictorial of bottles and ephemera used by mineral water manufacturers, wine and spirit merchants and brewers in Victorian and Edwardian Norfolk. |

The Fakenham Society
For over 40 years the Society has arranged a fortnightly series of talks throughout the winter on a wide variety of topics. Everybody is welcome at the Society's meetings. We are a friendly crowd and during the evening there is time for socialising over a tea or coffee during a break. This advances one of the Society’s aims of promoting friendships and community spirit. |

Pudding Norton and Testerton Parish
Pudding Norton and Testerton parish is situated just south of Fakenham. The parish of Pudding Norton borders the river Wensum just south of Fakenham in north Norfolk. Pudding Norton comprises some 1,400 acres of predominantly arable farmland. In 1935 Pudding Norton parish was united with the small parish of Testerton, which extends south from the River Wensum along the eastern border of Pudding Norton. |
Docking Heritage Group
Formed in 2007, the Docking Heritage Group’s aim is to research, record and present the history of Docking in a way that encourages others to take an interest in and appreciate their local heritage. Regular group meetings are held throughout the year together with an annual two day exhibition, which has proved very popular with local people and visitors. |
Syderstone Community archive
The Syderstone family history and local photographic archive group has a growing collection of local pictures and information connected with the village and people of Syderstone, including village events, sporting teams, school life, military life, family history and photos. At present, photographs, documents and family histories are displayed at the twice yearly ‘Old Syderstonians’ Reunion, but it is hoped in due course to be able to permanently display all the information gathered in the village hall for public viewing. Britain from Above
More than 15,000 images from one of the earliest and most significant collections of aerial photography of the UK have been made freely accessible online to the public for the first time. Britain from Above, a new website launched by English Heritage and the Royal Commissions on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland and Wales, features some of the oldest and most valuable images of the Aerofilms Collection, a unique and important archive of over 1 million aerial photographs taken between 1919 and 2006. |
The East Anglian Film Archive
In November 2011 the East Anglian Film Archive completed a major cataloguing and digitisation programme designed to enable far wider access to its holdings by the people of the East of England, and further afield. North Walsham & District Community Archive
North Walsham & District Community Archive was formally launched on the 5th June 2007. It was a joint project between the Norfolk County Council Cultural Services Departments of Adult Education, Libraries and Museums working in conjunction with the existing archives. However, the North Walsham archive has recently decided to host its own website, which is available for the people of North Walsham and the surrounding villages and also anybody wishing to find out more about the area. |
